Thanks for addressing the mailbox bread hoax. I had two people send it to me and I was like 😒. I don’t know how much they actually believed, it or maybe I don’t have a sense of humor (I haven’t googled it but saw some comment that the original lady posted it as a joke, wasn’t trying to claim that she actually baked it in the mailbox but it went viral out of context). But given that hot tarmac or greenhouse effect in cars only reaches 150s or something (still plenty hot enough to burn skin or slow cook something), there’s no way that mailbox is getting to 350+ degrees needed to make a loaf like that unless she made a fire in that mailbox first. 😤
Thanks so much for including me in this, Andrew! And love being in such good company - every time I see a Bitter Southerner shirt, it warms the cockles of my Georgia-born heart!
I prefer my tomato sandwich on my homemade onion sourdough bread with a tad of rye. And... it's totally different: I add Italian seasoning & cheese to the open-faced sandwich and then toast it. I never was one for the squooshy white bread out of a plastic bag. But then...I grew up in Germany and moved to Alabama when in my twenties. Now I live in Seattle --- still cooking. I don't like "German" food per se, but I do LOVE getting inspiration from from international recipes... and then make them my own. 😋 Ever had a tofu sandwich with tofu that was soaked in feta brine ??? 😜 And your homegrown tomatoes to that and tickle your taste buds! Happy Summer!
Well, you already know we are polarized on that last point. (#🚫mayoever) But I love the idea of counting bakers during those wakeful early morning hours. 🙏
just LOVED "counting sheep bakers", andrew. thanks for the tip.

Exactly! And said much more coherently than I was going to manage.

Meeeee tooooo! I've had the really great fortune of writing for them twice, and each time was an absolute delight. Bitter Southerners Unite!

The best way to enjoy tomatoes on bread is fresh tomatoes on toasted crusty bread with olive oil and black pepper . Definitely no mayo 😂😂😂
