Andrew, the “starch madness” piece is writing perfection on so many levels - the insight/commentary is incisive but I still nearly LOL (and assumed your laptop was only figuratively thrown since you wrote this up, but I totally get that level of frustration). Luckily we still have some level of intuitive detection, in that the tone of these sorts of sites are repetitive and nonsensical, but that may not be the case later as the technology matures (please don’t tell me you used chatgpt to write that piece, or I’ll go crawl in hole and hide). But call me cynical, human voices are not necessarily more reliable sources of info either ...
The Missouri Legislature even declared July 7 to be the state's Sliced Bread Day, probably the only useful legislation they have passed in the last 20 years or so.
I agree 100% with your comments about AI-authored web content, and no, I did not use ChatGPT to "write" this. Looking forward to tomorrow's pretzel class!
The "Starch Madness" is the sadly the direction we will likely see the majority of the food blogger gorp that's out there head. They all seem to use the same canned blogger software, the posts are all written in a "flourished" tone. It's only a matter of time (if it isn't there already) that a blogger simply tells the AI post-writer tool to "write a blog post about a recipe for XYZ", and it's done for them, complete with all their affiliate links.
It's to the point that I won't bother reading a search engine hit for a recipe if it comes from a blog I'm not familiar with, particularly if said blog has a cutesy-poo sounding name.

Happy Sliced Bread Day, Andrew! If you'd like to learn about Chillicothe, MO's claim to fame, here is a pretty enjoyable podcast episode about it:

Your bread salad, tomato sandwich w/mayonnaise and more made me excited for my friend to share his heirloom tomatoes!
