Friday Bread Basket 3/4/22
Bake For Ukraine Updates
Gonna skip the usual bread basket roundup again this week in favor of more Ukraine relief information.
The first bit of news is that I’ve added an online workshop option to my own drive, for those who aren't local enough to me to participate in the bake sale:
On 3/15, at 6:00pm EST, I’ll be teaching a 90-minute workshop detailing and demoing my new collection of soda bread recipes, and 50% of the proceeds from the class will be donated to Ukraine relief. (If you can’t attend the class live, not to worry, you’ll receive a link to download the recording within two days after it is held.)
Secondly, my bake sale is already sold out! (It mostly sold out within just a few hours of its announcement, which is amazing. If you emailed to get in on it and haven’t heard back, that’s why. I might add more slots if I can find the time, so keep an eye out for a possible response.)
We generated $280, which I just sent to Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen Ukraine relief efforts:
I’ll be sharing the sourdough-discard sunflower-seed granola recipe with subscribers once I finalize the baking method, probably in the next few days, so keep an eye out for that if you want to make it for your own drives (or just for breakfast).
Finally, here are a few more options for donating, if you do a bake sale yourself (or just want to give):
#CookforUkraine, the fundraiser started by Ukrainian chefs Olia Hercules and Alissa Timoshkina, proceeds of which go to support Unicef UK in Ukraine. Though it is UK-based, I am assuming that anyone can participate. The page includes a long list of links to Ukrainian/Eastern European recipes to consider using in your sale.
Feel free to share news about your own fundraising efforts, or anything else relating to Ukraine, in the comments below.
